You’ve had an incredible season, and your patio has witnessed some wonderful events with friends and family. For those whose patios can’t be used year-round, it’s now time to protect your investment and winterize your outdoor furniture. The following are 5 easy steps you can take:
1. Clean Your Patio Furniture – A little soap, water, and a soft-bristle brush will do wonders in making your patio furniture look clean and vibrant again.
2. Inspect For Small Areas of Rust – Most aluminum furniture is rust-resistant, but an inspection may locate a small spot or two. Use a rust cleaner and then lightly sand away any remaining stubborn corrosion. Apply an appliance type touch-up paint and allow it to dry.
3. Store Patio Furniture – Store your patio furniture in a dry location during the offseason. If you don’t have room to store the furniture as a whole, store the cushions after in a plastic bag after ensuring that the cushions are dry. If possible, store the remaining furniture frames under an awning or deck.
4. Tie-Off Furniture to Prevent Wind Damage – To prevent the wind from blowing furniture stored under an awning or deck, use rope to secure it in place.
5. If you don’t have a place to store outdoor furniture, cover it. – The best covers are 100% water-repellant and UV-resistant with heavy-duty ties, cord locks, and brass-coated grommets to keep the covers in place. Even better: mildew and stain-resistant covers with sewn edges for increased durability and longevity.
